Strawberry ice tea is delicious. Really. Go to Margarita’s and try some. We did.
Located at 11 Dempsey Rd, Margarita’s had a much more inviting aura. The aesthetic, music, and location were all very comfortable. The neon sign depicting the name of the restaurant glowed over the fancy cars parked outside. The restaurant had a clear Mexican theme, with fun and exciting Mexican music playing over the speakers.
After being seated, we ordered our drinks; a strawberry iced tea for Brian, and a strawberry virgin margarita for me. While they were delicious, they were also a little bit steep, priced at $7.00 and $9.00, respectively. The strawberry iced tea was truly amazing, easily the best thing that either of us ordered that day. However, the glass was quite small and was finished very quickly. The virgin margarita was just okay, but the portion was much bigger than that of the iced tea.
For an appetizer, we ordered Nachos la Especial: Margarita’s traditional nachos topped with black beans, chipotle cheese sauce, jalapeños, guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. The plate was pretty large, with more than enough nachos to split between several people. Whether or not they were worth $18.00, however, is debatable. They were highly recommendable, but very expensive.
The service was excessively fast. After ordering, we only had to wait a few minutes before our food arrived. This might have been due to an outlying factor. We were ordering our food at around 12:00 on a Thursday, while the restaurant was rather unoccupied. On a Friday or a Saturday night, the service might take longer.
Brian ordered the red enchiladas with beef for $18.00. The enchiladas were very straight forward, just regular enchiladas with red sauce on top and beef inside, along with other normal enchilada ingredients. The enchilada was not spicy, which was convenient for Brian, who doesn’t like spice.
I ordered the kitchen sink burrito, which was $24.00. Inside the burrito was sour cream, beans, rice cheese, jalapeños – basically “everything but the kitchen sink.” This burrito was pretty spicy, which can be overpowering but perfect if you enjoy spicy foods.
All in all, the restaurant was highly inviting. The location was highly convenient, and the experience was very enjoyable.
Mexican food isn’t very easy to come by in Singapore. As Singaporean Mexican food goes, Margaritas wasn’t so bad. However, there are some other Mexican places I might recommend instead. Señor Tacos is very good for some decent prices and a different, yet also a nice, aesthetic. One other place I would recommend isn’t Mexican food, but authentic Arizonan food made by a man who moved here from Arizona. Brickworks Tacos is located in a hawker stall at 2 Jalan Bukit Merah.
While the price at Margarita’s was not easy on our wallets, the location, service, and overall quality of the food is worth going for. And you can’t beat the strawberry ice tea.
